Kyle Hughes-Odgers has been steadily creating an international profile for himself with major wall mural commissions, gallery exhibitions and artist residencies spanning the globe.
More locally, his major commissions include a new building at the Perth International Airport in 2014, and the four 35 meter Merredin Silos in 2017. On top of this he has also published five children's books, including Ten Tiny Things with Meg McKinlay, which won the SCBWI Crystal Kite Award in 2013.
Hughes-Odgers numerous international travels have inspired this bold new series of large scale paintings that feature less of his highly recognisable spindly legged people and more of his accomplished abstract paintings and symbolic forms. These new works still have a highly driven narrative; some are based on views from an aircraft, his home in Maylands, or the South-West landscape. When questioned about the title of this exhibition, Between the Earth and the Moon, he stated, It's "an idea of floating between here and somewhere. My work for this exhibition explores colour theory, spatial balance and visual movement. Contrasted by narratives of nature, the built environment, human behaviour and the subconscious (abstract mapping works)."
