In his new body of work TREVOR RICHARDS focuses his attention towards the seductive qualities of pigmented epoxy resin.
Made by pouring resin over prepared surfaces, the works invite the viewer to experience looking through layers of colour. The exhibition title Reflex refers to the way each work mirrors the space around it. The glossy chromatic surfaces seem to contain and reflect not only the surroundings, but also the viewer as they move towards or past each piece. Beneath the surface patterns and geometry suggest indefinite space. Diamond shaped, circular and triangular shaped panels, hung in pairs and groups, give a sculptural dimension to these wall based works.
Trevor Richards has been exhibiting professionally for 40 years and was included in the prestigious WA Focus series held at The Art Gallery of WA in 2016. He is also highly sought after for his public artworks which include work at the Fiona Stanley Hospital, Turner Galleries facade, Roadworks at Curtin University, and the Mindarie Senior College Sports Hall. Richards' paintings and sculptures can be found in many important collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of WA, Artbank, University of WA, Murdoch University, Bankwest, Australian Capital Equity, Edith Cowan University and Royal Perth Hospital.
