Susan Flavell will be exhibiting the third of a proposed series of thirteen goddesses in our Front Entry Room Gallery.
The first was the spectacular The Horn of the Moon exhibited at John Curtin Gallery in 2017, followed by Golden Flowers (Fire Goddess) at the WA Art Collective in 2018. She Who Scribes the Sorrows (A Love Goddess) represents and explores the giddiness and disappointments, the promise and trials of love. She is a broken, reassembled and hopeful life goddess created from found materials. The goddesses explore ideas of the sacred, of antiquities, mythology, stories, taste, the unconscious, poetic collections, popular imagery and environmental issues.
Flavell has been a practicing artist for more than 30 years and her inspiration comes from animals, the environment, the unconscious, the fantastic, the monstrous and the mythical. Recent exhibitions include Creaturephor RMIT University (2018), The Dog's Artist Fremantle Arts Centre (2016), Freud's Desk Turner Galleries (2013) and An Internal Difficulty at PICA (2015 Perth International Arts Festival). Her work is held in many collections, including Art Gallery of WA, Wesfarmers, and City of Perth.
