Miriam Stannage is one of Western Australia’s most important and respected senior female artists.

She has artworks in over 35 public art collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of WA, National Gallery of Victoria, Queensland Art Gallery, Parliament House and Artbank. The Art Gallery of WA and John Curtin Gallery have both exhibited major surveys of her work in 1989 and 2006 respectively.

Her art practice has encompassed many different mediums, and photography has been an ongoing thread throughout her career. Along with responding to contemporary world events her work also has (what Ted Snell describes as) "a fascination to learn what we no longer know about ourselves."

Evidence is a body of photographic works printed onto canvas. Miriam stated that "these trompe l’oeil photographs are details of mattresses taken on street verges on council rubbish collection days.
